Senior Services of I.W.V. is dedicated to ensuring maximum independence and dignity in a home environment to elderly and adult disabled residents of the Indian Wells Valley and the Rand District within eastern Kern County, California. We also offer information and support to the family and friends who act as Caregivers for these senior and disabled members of our communities.
Senior Services of I.W.V. is a non-profit organization (formerly known as Homemaker Service of Indian Wells Valley) that has worked in our community to help the elderly and the disabled and their Caregivers for over 36 years.
We do this by providing the following services:
• Non-medical in-home care
Our Homemakers can come into the homes of elderly or disabled clients and assist with household tasks such as marketing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, or some assistance with personal care.
• An Adult Day Program for seniors with memory challenges (like Alzheimer’s)
We are licensed by the State of California (Lic. #157202830) to provide a social-model adult day program for functionally impaired adults. Our program is designed for frail seniors 60 and over, and people with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. The program offers a structured and stimulating environment for clients that promotes independence and maximizes all abilities, and offers assistance, support and respite for the clients’ caregivers.
• A Caregiver Support Program with individual caregiver follow-up
We not only recognize the needs of the elderly or disabled clients but also the needs of their caregivers. We conduct regular meetings for caregivers themselves that are dedicated to providing support, information and reassurance to all caregivers.
• A Senior Information and Referral service
We offer this free service to seniors and their families who need guidance in locating information and services in various areas, such as Social Security, SSI, Medicare, Medi-Cal, transportation, long-term care, housing, in-home care, legal issues, social programs, support groups, and other senior programs.
• A Durable Medical Equipment Loan Program
We offer the loan of a wide variety of durable medical equipment for as long as you need it. 'Durable medical' equipment includes such items as wheelchairs, shower chairs, toilet extenders, crutches, canes, walkers, bedside commodes, hospital beds, etc.
• A Healthy Home Program providing minor home repairs and maintenance
We offer help to the elderly or disabled in conducting typical non-emergency maintenance services, including such things as replacing light bulbs or fluorescent tubes, replacing stove elements, cleaning or replacing heating and air conditioning filters, re-securing handicap bars, stopping leaks, moving heavy household objects, or reaching household objects in high places.
• Various supportive and seasonal programs
Call us for more information, or to offer us help in providing these services to the senior and adult disabled residents of our community!
